A Regina roofing company has been fined $840 after pleading guilty to a charge under Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations.
According to information from Labour Relations and Workplace Safety, Penny Lynn Holdings Ltd. -- operating as Dale Pierre Roofing -- pleaded guilty to a section of the regulations dealing with a failure to insure workers use a fall-protection system where a worker may fall three metres or more.
An additional undisclosed OHS charge was stayed in court.
According to the government, on Aug. 5, 2009, an occupational health officer noticed four workers on a roof at a Regina construction site with no fall protection or protective headwear.
So far this year, there have been 20 convictions overall under OHS legislation compared with 11 in 2009-10. A total of 33 prosecutions have also been launched this year -- one more than all of last year.
OHS conducts about 4,000 worksite inspections each year and "takes a zero tolerance approach to violations of fall protection legislation," the government said.
